I fulfilled all the conditions for application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a keen and experienced user of Twitter and\/or Facebook.<\/li>\n<li>Be at least 18 years old at the time of the trip.<\/li>\n<li>Be a national of one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/outreach\/partnerships\/eson\/\" target=\"_blank\">ESON countries<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Have a conversational level of English at least.<\/li>\n<li>Love astronomy and space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To be\u00a0selected,\u00a0filling out a form was not enough. We had to show that we\u00a0like to engage on social media and share interesting content with our\u00a0friends\/followers.<\/p>\n<p>So I fought\u00a0for three weeks on two sides: getting\u00a0a maximum of support from my followers, both on Facebook and Twitter, and sharing informations to allow them\u00a0to have a better knowledge of\u00a0ESO.<\/p>\n<p>My two main sources of information were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/\" target=\"_blank\">ESO&rsquo;s website<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/ESOobservatory\" target=\"_blank\">ESO&rsquo;s\u00a0Youtube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8919\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/france\/images\/potw1238a\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8919\" class=\"wp-image-8919\" src=\"https:\/\/spacetux.org\/cpamoa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ALMA2.jpg\" alt=\"Alma's antennas under the stars (Credit: ESO \/ B. Tafreshi)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It seems that my efforts paid off. <a href=\"https:\/\/spacetux.org\/cpamoa\/category\/actualite\/tweetup-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">The several Tweetups<\/a> I attended in the past, (Hello, my name is Anne, and I&rsquo;m a Tweetup-addict \ud83d\ude09 ) as well as an interest in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/60110632@N03\/albums\/72157631793080231\/page1\" target=\"_blank\">astrophotography<\/a>\u00a0have most certainly\u00a0been taken into account.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thank you for your support!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would like to thank the readers of this blog and\u00a0everyone\u00a0who supported me. A fourth observatory is currently in construction on top of the Cerro Armazones (Cerro means &lsquo;Mount&rsquo; in spanish): the E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope).<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, we will go to Paranal first. We will spend two days up there and\u00a0we will get to observe the transit of Mercury, discuss with ESO Staff members and tour the facilities. There, we will also get to observe the night sky with amateur telescopes during two nights.<\/p>\n<p>If we have time to sleep (!), we will enjoy the\u00a0comfort of\u00a0La Residencia, the place where astronomers can rest after a hard night at work. La Residencia has been featured in a James Bond movie: Quantum of Solace. The following day will be spent at ALMA, located on the plateau of Chajnantor. First we will climb\u00a0at an altitude of 2900 meters where are located the OSF buildings (Operations Support Facility). There\u00a0we can find, among other things, the ALMA\u00a0control room\u00a0and\u00a0the maintenance buildings.
